Digitalising your company: where to start and what to do with public grants
During the years of Spain’s Kit Digital programme we guided many companies through their first digitalisation. The programme ended; the lesson stayed: what makes the difference is the order things are done in, not the grant.
Start with the process, not the tool
Most failed projects start by buying software. The ones that work start by writing down how an order comes in, who touches it and where time is lost.
With that map in front of you, the tool almost chooses itself, and it often turns out you need less software than you thought.
The order we recommend
This is the sequence that has given us the best results in small and medium companies.
- First what brings revenue: online presence, a website that converts, e-commerce where it fits
- Then what saves time: customer management, quotes and electronic invoicing
- Then what organises operations: ERP or custom software where standard tools fall short
- In parallel, always: secure workplace, backups and protected communications
- Finally, AI automation on processes that are already in order
Electronic invoicing is no longer optional
Business-to-business e-invoicing is moving from a voluntary improvement to a scheduled obligation. Adapting early is cheap; rushing is not.
We check whether your current software covers it, whether it needs updating or replacing, and we handle the technical side.
Where grants fit in
Digitalisation grant calls come and go, each with its own deadlines. Our advice is not to design the project around the grant: design it around what the company needs and, if an open call fits, take advantage of it.
A project designed only to spend a subsidy ends up as tools nobody uses.
